DMS Day of Service with Five Rivers MetroParks Adopt a Partk

  • Eastwood MetroPark, Patty's Shelter 4361 West National Road Vandalia, OH 45377 (map)

On Saturday, April 13 9am-12pm, DMS will be participating in the Five Rivers Metro Parks Adopt a Park program again this year to help clean up all the Metro Parks in our area.  We have had a lot of fun participating in this day of service as a school group in the past.  This year we are signed up to help in Englewood MetroPark at the Natural Playground near Patty's Shelter (East Park Entrance, 4361 W. National Rd. Vandalia, OH 45377- Follow the signs to Patty's Shelter)  This is a very safe and fun area for children that includes natural play structures, a shallow creek, and a wooded fort building area with bathroom nearby.  There will be jobs for adults and older children (helping staff restore safety play surface, spread wood chips, and removing invasive plants.)  and young children (picking up rocks, sticks, and trash along the creek and fort building area).  Volunteers will not be working in the water.  All volunteer should we long pants, long sleeved shirts, sturdy, closed-toed shoes, and any other special gear you may want such as work gloves.  Volunteers should also bring water.  Disposable gloves and trash bags will be provided.  As with any natural area, there is a chance that poison ivy may be in the area.

All current DMS families, new families enrolled for next year, alumni, and their extended families are welcome to volunteer with our group.  Volunteers can receive shirts for their participation.  Unfortunately they are not including youth sizes this year.  If you wish to receive a shirt I will need your RSVP with the number of adults and number and ages of children, and everyone's t shirt sizes by this Sunday. March 17th.  You can RSVP for this even until April 4th, but t shirts may not be available for later RSVPs.   Please email beverleymontessori@gmail.com to RSVP.
